One fan wrote: “My daughter grew up watching him. She’s now finishing up her veterinarian degree. He played a huge role in her love for animals.”

Another added: “Thank you for keeping him alive and present for all of us. You have forged a path for the rest of us widowed mamas to follow.”

Meanwhile a third said: “What an incredible person and legacy He lives on through you and your children and the actions of all inspired by his activism for wildlife.”

On person couldn’t even describe how much Steve meant to them: “I wish I could say how much Steve Irwin and you Terri meant to us growing up…I wish you had more time together, but he is with you always and shaped the next generation in many ways. Love to you and your family from the USA!”

Steve tragically died after a stingray barb pierced his chest on September 4, 2006, while filming near Batt Reef, Queensland, in Australia.

He was just 44-years-old at the time.

The couple’s two children lost their father very young; their daughter Bindi was eight-years-old at the time, while they son Robert was just two-years-old.

After her husband’s death, Terri took over Australia Zoo.

In 2021, Terri spoke about living without her husband for close to two decades.

Responding to questions about her current love life, Terri told The Courier Mail, per Yahoo! Lifestyle: “You know, and I keep saying this, and I think maybe 15 years later people are finally starting to believe me, Steve was it for me.”

Terri and Steve first met in 1991, when Terri visited a reptile park in Australia where Steve had been working as a zookeeper.

The couple married in June 1992.

Terri said: “I think when you become a young widow, it can be uncomfortable for other couples, that whole, ‘Oh well, now she’s single, is she looking around?’ And my male friends are more comfortable, they can see I’m not chasing them,” she said. “I’m too busy to chase anybody.”
