Shay Mitchell Expertly Shuts Down Troll Who Criticized This Breastfeeding Photo
10th December 2019

“I’m a fan of her, but this picture just says she’s an attention getter,” wrote the dissenter.

Shay Mitchell would like every single mom-shamer to have a seat.

The new first-time mom, 32, posted a photo to Instagram Tuesday showing all glammed up as her 2-month-old daughter nursed on her left breast. Though most of the comments left on the "Pretty Little Liar" alum’s photo were positive, a few criticized the actress’ display of skin.

One person, however, had an issue with the fact that Mitchell was looking directly at the camera and not at her child.

"I’m a fan of her, but this picture just says she’s an attention getter," wrote the dissenter. "She’s not even looking at the baby, she’s not connected with the baby she’s connected with the camera."

Shay expertly clapped back, "I missed the part in the baby books that stated I had to maintain eye contact with my daughter while she feeds rather than capturing an amazing moment we were having. Pls let me know where I can download your parenting manual, I’ll get right on it!"

Idk looks pretty connected to me. #CommentsByCelebs

Shay and boyfriend Matte Babel, an "Entertainment Tonight Canada" host, welcomed their first child together on Oct. 21. She announced the news via Instagram, with a closeup shot of her holding her newborn’s hand. "Never letting go…" she captioned the photo.

Mitchell and Babel have been dating since 2017.

The actress first announced her pregnancy on June 28 with an Instagram post of her growing belly, followed by a YouTube video chronicling some of her pregnancy journey.

"When you’re in the public eye there are some things you want to keep a secret until you feel ready," she said at the time. "This, for me, has been the hardest."

"I didn’t want to come out on social media so early on," she went on, adding that the "months of hiding" her stomach made for a "really lonely journey."

"I think pregnancy is awesome for the most part, but it’s also really f–king lonely," she said. In time, the actress grew to feel "extremely confident … because I have my baby growing inside me."

Mitchell experienced a miscarriage in 2018, which she went public with on New Year’s Day 2019.
