Rami Malek talks taking on role of Freddy Mercury
8th December 2018

Since Rami Malek played Freddie Mercury in the hit “Bohemian Rhapsody,” he’s being treated like a rock star.

But he revealed at a Russian Tea Room party for the Fox film that he’s very much an actor.

He said during a Q&A of taking on the iconic role, “I told them outright that I don’t consider myself a singer, I’ve never touched a piano . . . I realized quickly that it was going to take an immense amount of work to capture just how formidable a performer he was.”

Malek, who appeared with the film’s Joe Mazzello, added “the process of getting ready for a year was to not only get those aspects right, but to demystify [Mercury] in a way.”

We hear that off-screen Malek still plays piano to relax, and that he’ll spend the holidays with his co-star girlfriend Lucy Boynton.
