Comedy legend Peter Kay has heard the nation’s prayers and arranged more dates for his critically-acclaimed comeback tour.
After teasing a “big announcement” earlier this week, Peter appeared on BBC Radio 2, where he chatted about his first gig and last gig for Sara Cox’s regular segment.
After recalling his favourite concerts, Sara revealed that for one night and one night only, the show would be introducing another segment called “future gigs.”
While this was arguably just a segway into Peter’s news, something he seemed to greatly appreciate, the 49 year old delighted fans with the announcement.
“You’ve come on to tell us something pretty special and exciting,” Sara said, which prompted Peter to thank fans for their support.
“First of all, I want to thank everyone who has bought tickets for my tour, I really do appreciate it, and we’ve finally managed to book some more extra dates!” he said.
“I know demand has been high because my sister went on and said there were 335,000 in the queue,” Sara replied. “They’ve been very very popular, so that is excellent news and you must be thrilled to be gigging again.”
Peter added: “Joyous, it’s been amazing and people deserve a bit of joy.”
Sara then revealed that tickets would be going on sale on Sunday, December 11, at 10 am.
According to the radio host, the extra shows are located in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Glasgow and “many many many more.”
“And also a 28th night at the O2 Arena, London, as part of a monthly residence where you’ve apparently beaten a record held by Prince,” Sara added.
Peter teased the announcement on Wednesday when he posted on Twitter: “I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to the first shows in Manchester. It was incredible to be a part of such a happy experience.
“Everybody deserves a bit of joy. Here's to a lot more in the shows to come!! P.S. big announcement Thursday on Sara Cox Drivetime Show just after 6pm.”
Reacting to the splendid news, one fan wrote: "Good luck everyone. My the odds be ever in our favours."
"Nice early Christmas present," wrote another fan, as a third said, "Peter Kay’s impact >>>>>>."
