It’s been 18 months since Marnie Simpson cancelled her wedding at the last minute due to Covid restrictions, but we can reveal the Geordie Shore star will finally say “I do” to fiancé Casey Johnson this spring.
According to a pal, the couple recently found a stunning venue that they both fell in love with so decided to go ahead and book a date.
“She saw the venue and thought it was amazing and thought ‘that’s where I want to get married’. So she booked it!” the source told us.
The star had originally planned to get married in August 2021. But in an interview with us last September, the mum-of-two admitted to putting her wedding plans on the back burner as she was finding motherhood “a struggle”.
“I’ve got no intention of getting married anytime soon. I’ve got enough stress on my plate,” she said.
Marnie has certainly been through the mill over the last few years and has had a series of health complications which left her feeling very low. Just months after welcoming her and Casey’s first child, Rox, in 2019, she revealed she’d been diagnosed with a “chronic UTI” [urinary tract infection].
She told her 3.4 million Instagram followers at the time, “The majority of girls will get a UTI and they’ll come and go – they’ll take antibiotics and they’ll go. People probably get them once or twice in their life, but I suffer from chronic.
"Basically one came and I could never get rid of it.”
But according to our source, Marnie’s medical treatment has been successful and the star, who gave birth to a second baby boy called Oax last May, is feeling very “relaxed” about arranging the big day now.
“Marnie is definitely not a bridezilla!” they said.
We can also reveal that while Marnie had previously wanted a small, intimate wedding, it will actually be on a far grander scale.
“Before she knew it, 80 people had said they were coming. She had wanted it to be smaller, but now she knows it’ll be lovely having everyone there to celebrate the day.”
Marnie and former Union J singer Casey met and fell in love on celebrity dating show Single AF in late 2017, and the pair bought a house together after just five months of dating.
In April 2019, Marnie announced she was expecting her first baby, and in August 2020, she and Casey announced their engagement with a sweet selfie on Instagram, flashing her new diamond ring.
It may have taken almost three years to get to this point but it seems that the star is 100% ready to walk up the aisle and, according to our source, she’s found her “dream” dress.
They told us, “Her dress is being made as we speak. It’s very her and she’s hoping that it’s perfect. She also has plans for an evening dress that she’ll change into to party into the night!”
