MAFS UK’s ‘rude’ bride Whitney insists viewers ‘don’t get my humour’ after backlash

Married At First Sight UKstar Whitney Hughes has hit back at negativity she’s received from her appearance on the latest series of the hit E4 show.

Whitney, who left fans threatening to call Ofcom over her "rude" behaviour, has had a rough start to her marriage to Duka Cav as the bride made a number of flippant comments during their vows and even rolled her eyes at her husband.

Things then went from bad to worse on their honeymoon and after a string of cringey moments, Whitney accused her new groom of being "fake" as the pair had a major clash.

Following backlash from fans over her behaviour, the PA from St Albans has broken her silence.

“I mean, I wasn’t going into it with these super high expectations, expecting to find the love of my life because I can be quite pessimistic. But deep down yes I did want to find a really good connection with my husband,” she told The Sun.

She continued: “I went into denial for a second, and then I got to the end of the aisle, and I was like, OK I’ve got to marry this guy. And it was like, ‘OK don't trip, don’t trip!’"

She added: “The thing is, I actually hate drama and I hate being in confronting situations.

“My go to is being sort of dry and sarcastic and blunt, that is my way of diverting away from opening my heart.

“I don’t think the viewers get my humour yet, they might eventually see that most of the time I’m just joking. I don’t take myself too seriously so I don’t know why everyone else is. It’s just dry sarcastic humour a lot of the time."

In scenes from their honeymoon, the pair were seen on a safari and while taking in the scenery as Duka told his new wife: "I wouldn't necessarily class myself as a colourful person."

Whitney didn't seem impressed and replied: "Really?"

"No I wouldn't," Duka said bluntly, to which Whitney continued: "Yeah you're a bit, you know, glitter and gold. You like to put on a show."

Duka responded: "When someone says to me, 'you're colourful', you would assume that they're high maintenance or they're a bit too much."

Whitney then asked: "Why are you getting all aggy about it?"

Her husband replied: "I'm not."

As the show cut away from the conversation to an interview with Whitney, she told the camera: "I poke him and prod him with like our conversations because I'm trying to draw him out of himself so he can really show who he is.

"But the boy will not let that mask slip. He's determined to keep that facade."
