Louise Redknapp has admitted that she "regrets" taking part in Strictly Come Dancing as it led to the end of her marriage with ex-husband Jamie.

The 46 year old participated in the fourteenth series of the hit BBC One dance show in 2016, finishing in as a runner-up with her professional partner Kevin Clifton.

However, her time on the show was followed by marital issues, and she confirmed in September 2017 that she had split from her retired footballer husband of 19 years.

She has now candidly admitted that she wishes she didn't take part in the show, hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, as it caused the "heartbreak" of her divorce.

In her new book, You've Got This, the former Eternal singer writes of her divorce: "If I'd done the show four years earlier, this wouldn't have happened. I wouldn't have walked away from my marriage."

She added that she would have been "too scared" to leave Jamie if she hadn't taken part in the show, but did admit she was grateful it had given her "a new path" and showed her she "could find work again."

Louise continued: "I still wish I'd done things differently because I feel like I hurt a lot of people and I'l always be sorry for that.

"I felt like certain people had my back, and, in hindsight this wasn't really the case.

"I was so scared about going back to normal life and losing what I'd achieved on the show."

Discussing whether she would decide to go on Strictly again if she could go back in time, she admitted: "No," adding it "wasn't worth putting anyone I loved or love through the heartache" it caused.

Earlier this month, a source close to Louise told new magazine she felt "betrayed" by her celebrity friends who sided with Jamie following their divorce.

The source said: "Celebrity friends in particular seem to drop, they sometimes weigh up who they can get more out of.

"Louise felt the friends sided with Jamie. Showbiz can be a sad and shallow world, and people do tend to pick the side they can benefit from.

"Louise felt let down by some friends and a lot of people she thought were friends turned out to be quite shallow."

The Naked hitmaker touched on the issue in her book, writing: "These women were my friends. We went on holiday together, went out for dinner together and shared countless special memories.

"While they still enjoy couples' nights out – birthday parties, Christmas dos, drinks and the like – I'm only invited for coffee."
