Lindsay Ell is among the five artists named by Country Radio Seminar for its New Faces of Country Music Class of 2019.
Ell and the other four artists, Jimmie Allen, Lanco, Dylan Scott and Russel Dickerson, will perform as part of the New Faces showcase on February 15 at Omni Nashville in the CRS Performance Hall.
Ell was the only female among the 13 nominees and her inclusion among the final performers is considered a surprise. CRS said Ell was the only qualifying female artist of 2018.
Ell’s single, “Criminal,” peaked at No. 1 on the Canada Country chart and climbed to the Top 20 in the U.S. She released a full-album remake of John Mayer‘s The Continuum in May.
“At the end of the day, I’m very proud that I get to represent the women in this lineup,” Ell told Taste of Country. “The criteria is the criteria, so it’s nothing against CRS. It sort of highlights the state of where our format is. Do we need more women in our format? Yes we do, and are there incredible women in our format? Yes, there are. So I feel like next year, it’s hopefully going to be taking another step in the right direction,” she added.
