Kanye West officially changes name to ‘Ye’ after request is legally granted

A judge has granted Kanye West ’s request to legally change his name to Ye.

His request was approved on Monday by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michelle Williams Court after the singer filed the petition in late August.

Kanye has been wanting to go by Ye for a number of years, and even named his eighth studio album by his desired name.

The father of four has also had Ye as his name on Twitter for quite some time, and tweeted in 2018: "the formally being known as Kanye West. I am YE."

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye in February of this year, but there have been rumours that the pair are potentially looking to reconcile.

According to Deadline,Kanye wanted to change his name for “personal reasons” .

In light of the judge's approval, Kanye will now simply be known as Ye with no middle or last name.

In addition to Ye being an obvious shortening of Kanye, the All Of The Lights rapper has previously spoken of the word’s use in the Bible.

An interview with radio host Big Boy in 2018, Kim Kardashian’s estranged husband claimed that “ye” is the most commonly used in the Bible, and that it means “you” in the religious text.

He said at the time: “I believe "ye" is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means “you”.”

“So I'm you, I'm us, it's us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are,” Kanye continued.

Since having his name change request approved, Kanye has debuted a new haircut on Instagram.

In the photo, the back of the rapper’s head can be seen with an undeniably unusual new trim. He’s also wearing a chunky silver chain with ‘saint’ on it, presumably referring to his five year old son whom he shares with Kim.

When filing divorce earlier this year, Kim requested joint custody of their four children North, eight, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Pslam, two.

The reality TV star-turned business mogul addressed her failed marriage on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians where she branded herself a “f*****g loser”.

Kim said: “I just think he deserves someone who will support his every move and go follow him all over the place and move to Wyoming. I can’t do that.”

“He should have a wife that supports his every move and travels with him and does everything, and I can’t. I feel like a f***ing failure. It’s my third f***ing marriage. Yeah, I feel like a fucking loser. But I can’t even think about that. I want to be happy,” the 40 year old continued.
