Amber Gill is “happier than ever” with her footballer girlfriend Jen Beattie, after going public with their romance – but she wants to keep things as private as possible, pals have told us.
Former Love Island star Amber, 25, was first linked to Arsenal player Jen, 31, in December, and the pair sealed it with a kiss last week as they celebrated her match win.
Now, a source has revealed, “Things are still fairly new but Amber is really smitten with Jen. Jen asked her out after speaking online and they hit it off straight away on their first date. It’s gone from strength to strength ever since. They both have a lot of fun together and Amber is happier than ever.”
The couple were seen locking lips in the stands at Selhurst Park after Jen’s team won the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final against Chelsea.
In an Instagram post, Jen shared a string of snaps from the day, including one with Amber. She wrote alongside, “Conti Cup Champs Baby,” to which Amber commented, “My Bennifer Jeattie.”
Just days before, Amber also made their romance Instagram-official as she posted snaps from a trip to Paris. While she was careful not to post Jen’s face, she shared a picture of herself enjoying a romantic meal as they held hands.
And on Valentine’s Day, the pair are thought to have enjoyed a spa break after Amber posted a snap in a hot tub. “Happy National take your girlfriend to the spa day.”
However, our source adds that Amber doesn’t want to overshare their relationship on social media just yet.
“Things are going really well and Amber wants to keep it that way,” they said. “She doesn’t like sharing every detail as it’s something nice to keep to herself. While she’s posted the odd thing here and there, she’s kept it low-key and private. She will share more when she’s ready.”
Previously opening up about her new romance, a coy Amber said, “I’m really happy and that’s all you need to know.”
And speaking on the Sex, Lies & DM Slides podcast with YouTubers Saffron Barker and Anastasia Kingsnorth, Amber said she’s a “nicer person”
when dating women.
While she didn’t name Jen, she described their romance as the “cutest thing ever” and admitted she’s now turned into a “simp”. She added, “I don’t believe it from me. My whole mindset has changed.”
Amber, who won series five of Love Island with Greg O’Shea, admitted back in July that she “couldn’t be with a man again” and that “switching teams was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life”.
She added on Twitter, “Watching men makes me feel ill. I couldn’t put myself through it again.”
She later explained, “I’m not like 100% over guys. I was annoyed at the time with guys when I said all that [on Twitter] but yes, I have dated girls, In the past and recently as well, It’s great.
“Girls are gorgeous! Before, I didn’t have awareness [about my sexuality] and now I have awareness and it is what it is, I don’t have a type. I like what I like.”
Amber added, “I do still date guys, I am just saying I date whoever I want to date, when I want to date them – It’s not this big thing and I don’t like to define it."
