Alastair Campbell, 63, has been enjoying a stint presenting Good Morning Britain this week, filling in for the anchor role after Piers Morgan’s departure back in March. However, the broadcaster issued a jibe at Piers on Twitter as he called out the digital team on the show.
Posting in front of his 698,000 followers, Alastair admitted he was “really shocked” to have not seen clips shared from his interviews earlier today.
He penned: “Really shocked @GMB haven’t posted the clips of @VinnieJones65 and Denise van Outen saying how much better the programme was with me not whatsisname, Meghan’s mate …
“Reckon he must have another mate in the digital team!”
His jibe of “whatsisname” seems to be aimed at Piers, following his departure from the show over his Meghan Markle comments back in March.
He was asked by ITV at the time to either apologise or exit the show after he said he did not “believe” her comments during her landmark chat with Oprah Winfrey.
Alastair was referencing Denise’s and Vinnie’s interviews on Good Morning Britain earlier today.
At one point, Vinnie made a joke at Piers’ expense as he told Alastair “you look 10 years younger”.
He said: “All the best, Alastair – honestly, you look 10 years younger than the other fella.”
Alastair then replied: “I’m about 13 years older I think!”
Express.co.uk has contacted ITV for comment over Alastair’s tweet.
The former political advisor has been fronting the show with Susanna Reid all week.
Posting below his tweet, many of Alastair’s followers weighed in with their thoughts on his presenting style.
One penned to the former Labour spin doctor: “I’m loving it, Alastair.”
“Even without having watched it I know it was better with you and not him.. make it permanent please!,” added a second.
A third wrote: “Three really good shows. @GMB should offer you @campbellclaret a long term contract. Worked well.”
However, not everyone agreed with his tweet as they replied to the presenter.
“That’s because it’s not,” one wrote in response.
While another added: “Now play nice boys.”
A third follower then joked: “Scared to tag @piersmorgan Al!”
Piers has not shied away from making his feelings about Alastair known either.
The outspoken broadcaster tweeted earlier this week wondering how much celebrities who are “constantly preaching” about mental health give to charities.
When Alastair asked if he was referring to him, Piers hit back: “No, I was talking about celebrities.”
He also tweeted in response to Alastair apologising on air for saying the Queen was dead as well.
He penned earlier today: “I think this puts my disbelief of Princess Pinocchio’s porkies into proper perspective. Many congrats @campbellclaret.”
