'Tis the season to decorate your hair like a Christmas tree

When festive folks started decorating their eyebrows like Christmas trees in the past few years, they were missing a beat.

They should’ve focused on their head – for it is ample foundation to erect a tree.

But now, fashion-forward Instagrammers have caught on and started a trend, putting on tinsel and ornaments on their hair so they can take the spirit of Christmas wherever they go.

Like a winter-inspired Marge Simpson, women have been doing the ultimate updo, adding baubles, lights and much, much greenery.

The look involves raising the hair up into a cone and holding it up with lots and lots of hair spray.

But all the hairspray in the world can’t hold up that structure, probably, so you’re going to need some support in there.

Some of the Instagrammers have created cones out of paper and pinned it onto their heads, adding an ornament on top.

Others have expertly placed bottles underneath and wrapped their hair around it to give it that elongated shape.

Then, the dedicated lot have added in all the trimmings you might expect on a traditional tree.

If you’re looking for how to style your hair for the annual shindig then you might also want to grab some green or red lipstick and earrings to look the part.

The holiday-themed hairstyle isn’t entirely new as people have been doing it since 2016 but in recent times it’s been getting bigger and bolder.

Over on Instagram, the tag #Christmastreehair has more than 4,000 hits with even the youngsters joining in.

But the younger cohort is creating feathered braids using green ribbons and string rather than an updo (which could potentially leave them with a headache).

Here are some of the best Christmas tree hairstyles we’ve found:
