Love Island's Sherif Lanre has broken his silence and laughed off his axing from the villa.
The 20-year-old chef's removal from the dating show was confirmed yesterday, with the Islander explaining in a statement he had "broken the rules".
After being reunited with his mobile phone, Sherif was finally able to post to Instagram for the first time since leaving.
He told followers: "Thank you to everyone including my friends and family for the support I've come back to.
"I appreciate you all and hope I provided some good, positive moments during my time on Love island and for anyone wondering I'm all good."
Sherif then followed up his statement with the tongue in cheek hashtag: 'It is what it is' – which has become a much-joked about phrase on the show – and 'Better things to come.'
Sherif had been in the villa just nine days when he was kicked out over a 'silly mistake.'
While the exact reason for his exit has yet to be revealed, a TV insider told the Mirror: "Sherif made a silly mistake and was immediately summoned to the Beach Hut – it wasn't a criminal matter and he was spoken to and agreed to leave," a Love Island insider told us.
"Sherif knew he had to leave immediately after being called to the Beach Hut.
"No security were involved."
In a statement released yesterday, Sherif admitted his "poor judgement" led to him leaving the villa.
"In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa," he said.
I regret that I didn't conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.
"I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside."
The latest episode of Love Island went to air as scheduled on Tuesday night, hours after the new was confirmed – though no mention of Sherif's exit was made
Viewers also noted that Sherif was barely seen in the hour long programme with producers choosing to focus on the other contestants.
A source has since revealed to the Mirror that none of the remaining Love Island cast were officially told the reason Sherif's axing, despite it being serious enough for him to have been booted out of the villa immediately.
"The Islanders have been told he's left the villa," a Love Island insider told us.
"They haven't been told the reason why, and it's unlikely they'll be told officially."
The news appears to confirm Sherif's "silly mistake" was a solo act of rebellion, for which he was hauled into the Beach Hut for a serious talk with producers.
Rule breaking includes aggression, possession of mobile phone, masturbation, racism, sexually aggressive behaviour and smoking in the non designated areas.
As well as taking in medication not disclosed to producers.
It doesn't seem to have been an altercation with any of the other Islanders – as was one of the theories doing the rounds on Twitter .
