Last night’s Love Island left fans reeling with a devastating recoupling and another islander mercilessly dumped.
Danny Williams finally made up his mind and coupled up with Arabella Chi, leaving Yewande Biala dumped from the villa as Tom Walker atoned for his ‘all mouth’ comment to an uncompromising Maura Higgins.
When Danny dumped Yewande
We knew it was going to happen but we were still shocked. And devastated.
Yewande has been a constant presence on the series since the very first episode and she will be severely missed, not just by her fellow islanders but by viewers too.
The tense recoupling saw Danny make up his mind after grappling with who to choose as soon as the text came through.
‘If I pick Yewande and it goes back to how it is then I’ve only got myself to blame,’ he said in the Beach Hut. ‘I could be missing out something quite special with Arabella.’
However, there seemed to be some intentional misdirection from Danny in his speech which he began by saying: ‘I want to couple up with this girl because I think she’s very intelligent.’
Hmmm, could that be the scientist or the model he’s referring to? (Not that models aren’t smart but in this scenario, it’s safe to say that it would more likely be Yewande in that particular reference.)
When Danny finally chose Arabella, all the islanders immediately rallied around Yewande with Amber Gill and Anna Vaikili bursting into tears.
At least it looks like Yewande has made some amazing friendships and it was heartwarming to witness how close they grew over the last few weeks.
Yewande and Danny’s parting was terse, the former delivering what is sure to go down in Love island canon: ‘What goes around comes around and have a nice life.’
Afterwards, Yewande cast doubt on Danny and Arabella’s future, citing their age gap.
‘There are so many factors – they’re so different, and the age gap,’ she said.
‘You have to be realistic. He’s just starting his life – he’s only 21. They are in two different phases of their lives. In the villa, it’s very easy to forget.’
The new couples are:
- Tommy and Molly-Mae
- Curtis and Amy
- Michael and Amber
- Tom and Maura
- Jordan and Anna
- Anton and Lucie
- Danny and Arabella
Maura makes Tom work
The fallout from Tom Walker’s sexist ‘all mouth’ comment to Maura Higgins was just as explosive as anticipated and the episode kicked off in a seriously dramatic fashion.
As Tom backpedalled, claiming it was a ‘miscommunication’, Maura let him have it.
‘Maybe you should have been a gentleman. You shouldn’t have said that about me,’ she said.
Tom said: ‘I didn’t say it.’
Maura responded: ‘You did! Don’t lie to my face. I don’t want to speak to you.’
In the end, no one got to go in the hideaway and Tom was left sleeping on the couch, despite numerous attempts to get back on Maura’s good side.
However, she woke up the next morning feeling better and eventually accepted Tom’s apology, but not without him making it up to her big time.
As he delivered her coffee and biscuits she demanded her fetch her hairbrush, then said it was the wrong one before making him brush her hair as the other islanders looked on in hysterics.
Once again the Longford ring girl proved there’s definitely no messin’ with Maura.
Can we not whisper?
As the girls (and Tom) were getting ready, Yewande had a word in best pal Amber’s ear and Arabella didn’t like it.
‘Girls I’m not being funny can we not whisper?’ she scolded. ‘It’s a bit unfair, tensions are all a bit high. It makes everyone feel a bit s***.’
Since Arabella had been whispering to Danny all week, Yewande responded: ‘I know tensions are high but I want to say something to one of my friends.
‘No one else is complaining, so if you want to say everyone feels s*** just say you feel s***.’
Anton to the rescue
Another single girl at a loose end last night was Lucie Donlan who’s been flying solo since Joe Garratt left.
But single boy Anton Danyluk swooped into the rescue and coupled up with her as a friend so she could remain in the villa.
Lucie may have just broken ‘city party boy’ Joe‘s heart however, by revealing she’s open to moving on and finding the surfer boy of her dreams.
‘Imagine if I left here and that surf guy walked through the door, I’d be gutted,’ she said.
‘I’d be open to get to know him. I feel guilty as hell for saying it because I do like Joe, but this is what I’ve come here for.’
Stand out moments:
- Not that hairbrush
- Michael spotting Maura lurking
- ‘I was scared of burning my cheekbones’
- Anna’s sandwich
- Yoga helps with digestion, apparently
- Jordan thinks Anna could be a ‘potential girlfriend’
Love Island continues tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
