Narrated by Wright, she explained that it had been important for both her and the production team to accurately represent ‘both the physical and emotional impact of cancer treatment’.
The bald cap was created by a team of prosthetics experts, working with the soap’s hair and make-up department – explaining that it was the only way to accurately represent Jean’s physical appearance, as scenes are shot out of sequence on the show.
‘Our research team worked closely with Macmillan and other cancer charities to make sure that this visible and often devastating side effect was played out onscreen as truthfully as possible,’ she went on to explain.
Altogether Wright spent three and a half hours in the make-up chair while the cap was created.
EastEnders airs weeknights on Mondays and Fridays at 8pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm.
