AFI Awards 2018 Movies: ‘Black Panther’, ‘A Star Is Born’ & More; ‘Roma’ Scores Special Honor

The American Film Institute unveiled the 10 movies on its annual AFI Awards list on Tuesday, with a broad swath of titles from tentpoles like Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther and Warner Bros’ A Star Is Born to indie hits like A24’s Eighth Grade and First Reformed.

In addition to the top 10 films, which celebrate the year’s most outstanding achievements in the art of the moving image for American movies, AFI also awarded Alfonso Cuaron’s Netflix pic Roma with a Special Award, for a work of excellence outside the institute’s criteria for American film.
